Nelson men left with head injuries after Burnley attack: police appeal

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after two men were seriously assaulted in Burnley.

Officers were called to Abinger Street just after 10 p.m. on Saturday to find a 20-year- old man with head and facial injuries and a 27-year-old man with head injuries.

Both men, who are from the Nelson area, were taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital.

It is believed they were attacked by a group of men who left the scene in a green Ford Fiesta and a black Toyota Avensis heading towards Nelson and Brierfield.

Det. Insp. Simon Cheyte said: “I would appeal to anybody who may have been in the Abinger Street/Briercliffe Road area of Burnley at the time of the assault to contact police.

“I would also like to speak with anybody who may have seen a green Ford Fiesta or a black Toyota Avensis, or similar types of cars, in the area either before or after the assault took place.

“Finally, if there is anybody out there who has any information at all which could assist with this investigation then I would ask them to contact police.”

Five men, aged 19, 20, 21, 24 and 25, from Brierfield, have been arrested on suspicion of section 18 wounding with intent and criminal damage to a motor vehicle.

A sixth man, aged 22 and from Nelson, was also arrested on suspicion of section 18 wounding with intent and criminal damage to a motor vehicle.

The 21 year old has also been arrested on suspicion of possessing heroin with intent to supply.
