Man who 'spent his taxi money' fined after being caught walking along M65 near Burnley

A man who tried to walk home along the M65 after running out of money for a taxi has been fined.

The man was stopped by police after he was spotted walking along the M65 near Burnley on Saturday evening (September 5).

When asked why he was walking along the carriageway, the man explained he had spent all of his taxi money.

Officers were not impressed with the man's excuse and he was issued a £50 fine.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: "A little-known fact is that beer tokens also work as taxi tokens.

"One gent found out the hard way after spending all his money and trying to walk home along the M65 from Burnley.

"He was removed from the motorway and issued a £50 fixed penalty."
