Man suffers broken leg in hit-and-run

The incident happened on Wednesday evening when a 40-year-old pedestrian was in a collision with a vehicle, thought to be a white van, near to the junction of Branch Road and Kirkgate.

Officers are trying to trace the vehicle and any witnesses who were in the area at the time, including an elderly man and a passer-by who kindly took the man to Burnley General Hospital where he was treated for a serious leg injury.

PC Michael Higginson from the Road Policing Unit said: “We really need to find the vehicle involved to get the driver’s version of events.

“I am asking anyone who may have seen anything or similarly anyone who may have any information that could help us with our investigation to come forward.

“We know that there were people in the area at the time, including a person or a couple who covered the man in a blanket and transported him to hospital. I need to speak to them so would urge them to get in touch.

“Thankfully the victim is out of hospital but has suffered breaks to his leg and is still suffering with back pain. I wish him a speedy recovery.”
