Man remanded on plank attack charge

A man has appeared before Burnley Crown Court charged with attacking a woman with a plank of wood on a street.

Hungarian-born Jonas Bereczki (37), of Springfield Road, Burnley, is accused of wounding Jacqueline Christie with intent in Springfield Road on March 3rd and stalking another person without fear, alarm or stress.

Mrs Christie was hospitalised with facial injuries after the attack, which featured on our front page two weeks ago.

Bereczki appeared before the court yesterday via video link from HMP Forest Bank and was remanded in custody by Judge Jonathan Gibson to appear before the court at a plea and case management hearing on May 29th.
