A man had to be rescued after jumping from a bridge into the Leeds and Liverpool Canal this morning.
Emergency crews were called to the bridge in Centenary Way shortly after midnight.
Police negotiators were called to the scene but the 21-year-old, who police said was suicidal, jumped into the canal around 3-15am.
Firefighters pulled him to safety and he was treated at the scene by an ambulance crew before being taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital. His injuries were not thought to be serious.
Part of Centenary Way was closed for a time while police negotiated with the man but was re-opened shortly afterwards.
