Man arrested after driving off while police officers attempt to question him in 'hotspot' area in Nelson

A 32-year-old man was arrested after he drove off while police officers attempted to question him.

Taskforce officers approached the man who was sat in his car in Selby Street, Nelson. He tried to evade them by driving off and, as a result, collided with a stationary vehicle.

Fortunately, there were no pedestrians or vehicles in the area and no one was injured.

The man was arrested for aggravated unauthorised taking of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, failing to stop and other driving offences after the incident on Tuesday evening.

A spokesman for Nelson, Brierfield and Barrowford Police said: " We will continue to patrol hotspot areas within the local area and we thank each and every person who is adhering to the COVID 19 regulations."
