A knifeman who threatened two female shop assistants in a terrifying armed raid on a Burnley store is being hutned by police.

The man, who was wearing gloves and a blue balaclava-style face cover, burst into the Manchester Road spar with a large knife and demanded cash.

He brandished the blade at two shop assistants in the armed robbery which happened around 9-30pm on Saturday.

They handed over around £100 in cash to the man who escaped off towards Rossendale Road. The staff were left shocked but unhurt.

The police helicopter was scrambled in the hunt for the masked raider.

It is barely six months since the same Spar shop was targeted in an armed raid by a man brandishing a knife who made off with £560 last December.

Det. Insp. Nick Hodgeson, of East CID, said: “This must have been a terrifying experience for these members of staff and I would appeal for anyone with any information or who knows who this man may be to get in touch with the police.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting log number 1485 of June 21st or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
