Burnley Football Club’s live televised Premier League match against champions Manchester City passed off peacefully with just three arrests made.

The game, which kicked off live on Sky at 5-30pm, was watched by 21,216 fans inside Turf Moor.

A heavy police presence was noticeable around Burnley town centre before and during the game, and police said they were pleased the day passed off peacefully.

Insp Mick Johnson said: “This was a high profile match and as such there was a large police presence. There were just three arrests made, two for drunkenness and one for criminal damage.”

Burnley shocked their illustrious visitors, winning the match 1-0 thanks to a goal from George Boyd.
