A “monstrous drunk” a judge says is a danger to women has been locked up after attacking his ex-partner with a cannabis grinder.

Convicted robber Ben Swainston (30) had left victim Bethany Ormerod with a one inch gash to her forehead after the prolonged assault during which he had also grabbed her around the neck and dragged her across a room.

The violence took place when the pair had separated, but they had hosted a planned party, Burnley Crown Court was told.

Swainston was subject to two suspended sentences at the time.

The defendant, who has 35 offences on his record was jailed for 17 months.

Swainston, of Leamington Avenue, Burnley, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm.

He was also given a restraining order, banning him from contacting the victim and from going onto the street where she lives.
