An investigation is still ongoing this morning following an attempted armed robbery in Barrowford.

Police were called to Maguires Off Licence, in Gisburn Road, at 7-20pm last night.

They have initially confirmed that a man armed with a weapon burst into the village store with what appeared to be a scarf covering his face. It is unclear what the weapon was.

The man was then said to have threatened the shop keeper, before demanding that she should open the till.

But when she refused and shouted back at him, he left the store empty-handed and on foot. The incident was said to have lasted a matter of minutes.

Community area searches took place and the off licence was cordoned off, but the offender has not yet been found.

The shocking incident saw witnesses taking to Facebook, with one reporting that at least five police cars and vans were at the scene.
