Former St Hilda’s teacher faces historic sex charges while at Burnley school

A former biology teacher has appeared before Blackburn magistrates charged with having a sexual relationship with a pupil more then 30 years ago.

Joseph Cheesbrough (65), who taught at St Hildas RC Girls’ High School in Burnley at the time of the alleged offences, faces eight charges of indecent assault and two of buggery.

All the charges relate to the same girl who was aged 14 and 15 between August 1974 and August 1975 when the offences are alleged to have been committed.

Cheesbrough, of Gable Avenue, Cockermouth, Cumbria, was sent on bail to Burnley Crown Court where he will appear on December 3rd.
