The first three men were arrested after police were made aware an alarm had been activated in Burnley town centre yesterday evening.

When officers investigated the area they discovered the offenders had broken into a store by smashing a window on the roof of the premises.

Once inside, the offenders helped themselves to cash from the registers before making off from the scene.

But the men were quickly stopped by eagle-eyed officers who caught them carrying a "carrier bag full of spare change and notes".

The tread of their shoes also reportedly matched the footprints found on the roof, and their clothing was the same as the offenders that had been caught on CCTV.

The three men were subsequently arrested on suspicion of burglary and are currently in custody at Greenbank Police Station.

Later on in the evening, police spotted a vehicle acting "suspiciously" in the Danehouse area of Burnley.

Officers said the vehicle attempted to evade police but it was ultimately forced to stop after it drove down a dead-end street.

The occupants of the vehicle were allegedly seen trying to "frantically conceal items", and on being detained one of the men became "violent towards the officer".

Following their arrest it was discovered they were in possession of a knife.

Over £1,000 in cash was also seized from the vehicle along with "quantities of Class A and B drugs".

The two men were arrested for possession of a bladed article, possession with intent to supply class A and B drugs, assaulting a constable and resisting arrest.

They too await an interview in Greenbank Custody.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: "Morning everyone, its been a productive night shift for officers on Immediate Response Team 5 at Burnley Police Station.

"We will continue to target offenders who cause considerable harm to our community and will not tolerate this kind of criminality taking place on our streets."
