Fire at derelict house in Burnley

Burnley fire crews were called after a blaze broke out in a derelict house last night.

Two pumps attended the incident in Wren Street at 9-30pm. Firefighters used breathing apparatus to tackle the flames and carried out a search of the building but they found no one inside.

Watch manager Dave Robinson said the fire, which was in a mid-terraced house, could have spread to neighbouring homes.

“This type of fire has the potential to spread to adjacent properties and cause injuries not only to firefighters but to the people starting these fires,” he said.

“If you live next to or near to an empty property which is open to access please bring this to the attention of the authorities. Several agencies are working together including the fire service to reduce these types of incidents by carrying out visual inspections of areas within our community and arranging for them to be secured, but you can help target our efforts by reporting these types of property.

“Also please ensure you have fitted and working smoke alarms in your property.”
