Elderly couple reunited with stolen goods after police discovery at Burnley address

Yesterday evening (Thursday), officers attended a home on Wordsworth Street, Burnley, looking for a man who was wanted for numerous burglaries.

The male in question was not at the house, however, police found items which belonged to an elderly couple who had been burgled two days before (December 15th). Three men were arrested at the property for burglary and handling stolen goods.

Officers also discovered numerous other items, including bikes and are now appealing to locate the owners.

A spokesman for Burnley and Padiham Police said on a Facebook post: "On the evening of Thursday, December 17th, officers from Immediate Response Team 5 at Burnley had cause to attend an address on Wordsworth Street, Burnley whilst making enquiries to trace a male who was wanted for numerous burglary offences.

"Officers didn't locate the male they were seeking. However, whilst at the address officers have discovered numerous items which had recently been stolen from a separate burglary which had been reported on December 15th. The victim's of the burglary were an elderly couple who had suffered significantly due to the amount of damage and disruption caused.

"Three males were arrested at the property for burglary and handling stolen goods and are currently in Greenbank Custody awaiting interview.

"The victims were contacted and were gladly reunited with their property for which they were very grateful."

The police spokesman added: "We have located further items inside the property which we believe may be stolen. If anyone recognises the bicycles in the post and is aware that they have been stolen then please contact [email protected] or call 101 and quote log reference 1063 of 17/12/2020"
