Heartless burglars have stolen £5,000 from the home of a 69-year-old woman in Burnley.

Three offenders broke in to the semi-detached house in Coleshill Avenue at around 8-20pm on Tuesday, March 25th

Two of the men ran upstairs and the third, realising the aggrieved was in the living room, held shut a glass-panelled door preventing her from leaving.

The offenders searched the house and stole £5,000 before fleeing to a waiting car and making off towards Brunshaw Road.

The victim was left shocked but thankfully unhurt. She described the intruders as having painted faces.

A witness reported seeing four men in a dark car at the bottom of the victim’s driveway about an hour before the break-in.

Sgt Lee Turner said: “This was an extremely nasty crime which has left the vulnerable victim very shaken up, although thankfully unhurt.

“It may well be that this address has been targeted in error and I would appeal for anyone with information to get in touch with us.”
