After coming to officer’s attention through didgy number plates, cracked windows or bad driving, a spate of drivers have gone on to fail roadside tests for drugs – many cocaine and cannabis – or both.
Officers have also stopped vehicles with insecure loads and even helped neighbouring forces track down wanted vehicles.

5. BMW 1 series
This BMW 1 series was stopped by officers in Brockholes Brow, Preston. The driver was arrested after failing a roadside test for cocaine. Photo: Lancs Police

This Audi was seen entering the motorway network at Broughton, Preston and was stopped on the M6 south by patrol HO31. The driver provided a positive specimen of breath with a reading of 91 micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath - nearly three times the limit of 35mg. The driver was arrested and the vehicle recovered. Photo: Drink driving
7. Illegal immigrant
This Ford Focus was stopped because of damage to the rear window. Checks on the driver showed he was wanted by immigration for entering the country illegally. Photo: Lancs Police
8. Disqualified
This vehicle was stopped on New Hall Lane, Preston because the rear number plate was loose. The fault was quickly rectified however the driver was found to be disqualified from driving and had no insurance. The drriver was reported and the vehicle was seized. Photo: Lancs Police
