Drugs case aginst Burnley prison reform mum dropped

A penal reform campaigner alleged to have conspired to supply heroin has been told the case against her will not go ahead.

Carol Pounder (45), of Greenock Close, Burnley, pleaded not guilty to the charge at Burnley Crown Court. The case will lie on the file, and will not be proceeded with without the leave of the court or the Court of Appeal.

Her daughter, Laura Rickwood (21), also of Greenock Close, also denied conspiracy but admitted being concerned with supply. She was remanded on bail for reports until January 3rd.

Luke Gorton (28), also of Greenock Close, admitted conspiracy to supply heroin and was remanded in custody for sentence at a later date.

Pounder’s son, Adam, was the youngest person to die in custody when he was 14. Since then she has campaigned about the way in which youngsters are treated in secure detention.
