TWO men who raided a house on a “mission” for copper piping, are awaiting sentence by Burnley magistrates.

The court was told Ronald Houghton (56) and his accomplice, Jason Mansfield (34) were caught in the property on Kime Street.

Floorboards had been taken up and a holdall containing a claw hammer, hacksaw, wrenches, screwdrivers and a chisel was found next to the pair. The duo both deny that they took the tools with them and now face a trial over the facts.

Houghton, of Kent Street and Mansfield, of Florence Street, both Burnley, admitted burglary with intent to steal on January 2nd and were bailed.

Houghton, who was found hiding behind a bed, said the tools had not been taken with them. In interview, Mansfield claimed the tools belonged to his co- defendant.

Mark Williams, solicitor for both men, said: “They do not accept they took the tools with them.”
