Burnley teenager charged with attempted knife-point raid

A 16-year-old Burnley boy has been charged in connection with an attempted New year’s Day robbery.

Mr Mohammed Jabar (62) was closing his shop, Sana Communications in Colne Road, when two offenders burst in wielding two large kitchen knives and threatened to stab him.

His nephew, Imran Mehmood, threw a stepladder at one of the intruders and they only managed to escape with two mobile phones, together worth £400.

The teenager has been charged with robbery in possession of a knife and will appear at Burnley Youth Court on Monday.
