Callous thieves have targeted a Burnley sports club twice in just four days.
Members of Burnley Belvedere and Calder Vale Sports Club have now been left counting the cost after changing rooms and cars were broken into during the “senseless” spate of thefts.
Doors to the home changing rooms were smashed in as the football team were playing between 6-15 and 8pm on Wednesday, May 1st. Watches, wallets, wedding rings and a number of other valuables were taken.
Then just a few days later, overnight Saturday, nine cars were broken into following an end of season party at the club.
A club spokesman said the thieves had made what was already a difficult job even more difficult now.
“We’re trying to take the club forward but when things like this happen, it’s difficult.
“There were probably around 100 people in and around the club on Wednesday but nobody seems to have seen anything. They’ve seen an opportunity and just taken it. It’s just senseless.
“The police were called and they’ve done everything they can. We’re now going to be getting CCTV at the club to prevent this kind of thing from happening again. It’s not something that happens often at the club and we just can’t believe it.
“It’s a blow to have happened at the end of the season because this is a time when everyone should be relaxing and celebrating. We’re trying to attract new people to the club but things like this don’t help.”
