Burnley ‘murder’ probe inquest opens on victim (51)


AN inquest into the death of a man found at a house in Burnley has been opened and adjourned.

A murder probe was launched after police received a report that Brendan Lally (51), of Springfield Bank, had been found unconscious at a house in Reed Street, on October 31st.

When they arrived at 11-20pm officers found Mr Lally at the bottom of the stairs, and despite the efforts of both the officers and paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene. He was later identified by his sister.

A post-mortem examination revealed that Mr Lally died from neck and head injuries.

His death is currently being treated as unexplained and the inquest was adjourned for further toxicological and histological tests.

Two women aged 20 and 49, and three men aged 42, 45 and 48, all from Burnley, were arrested on suspicion of murder.

The 20-year-old woman, and men aged 45 and 48, were released without charge, while the 49-year-old woman and the 42-year-old man were released on police bail.
