A Burnley man is behind bars after pleading guilty to robbing a disabled man at knife-point in his own home.

Paul Whitehead (33) of Kinross Street was jailed for 48 months at Burnley Crown Court for the robbery of a disabled man of 69 at his home in Harold Street.

The court heard that on the afternoon of July 20th the victim was at home where he had left his door open as it was a warm day.

Whitehead went in and threatened him with a knife demanding money. The victim refused and Whitehead left empty handed.

He pleaded guilty to robbery and possession of a bladed article.

A police spokesman said: “We welcome this sentence. This was a callous and cowardly crime committed against an elderly and disabled victim.”
