Burnley man dies two weeks after assault

A MAN left for dead in a shocking and unprovoked assault in Briercliffe two weeks ago has died.

Darren Atkinson (48), of Briercliffe, died in Royal Preston Hospital on Thursday.

Mr Atkinson suffered a fractured skull after being savagely attacked as he walked along Standen Hall Drive at around 8-10 p.m. on Friday, March 25th. He was found in the front garden of one of the houses on the street.

A 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy, both from Burnley, were charged with wounding following the incident and are due to appear before Reedley Youth Court on Monday.

These charges are now to be reviewed by the Crown Prosecution Service and police.
