POLICE have launched an investigation into a suspected arson attack on the home of a Burnley man.

Firefighters were called to White Bull Street at 8 p.m. last night after reports of a fire in the entrance hall of the terraced property.

When fire crews arrived the occupant was stood outside the front door but the small blaze had all but died out.

Investigations showed that the fire may have been caused by a quantity of flammable material which ignited the hallway area.

Watch manager Steve Harrison, of Burnley Fire Station, said: “It was not a major fire but it had the capacity to spread. Neighbours were worried that there had been a fire next door.

“Ourselves and the police are treating it as suspicious and investigations are ongoing.”

Police confirmed that inquiries into the blaze were continuing but no arrests had been made at this stage.
