BURGLARS have stolen a £3,000 haul of antique swords from a Burnley house.

The Scarlett Street raid saw a total of 13 historical bladed weapons stolen – some more than 200 years old.

Among the haul was a sabre sword from 1800 and another heavy cavalry sabre sword worth £300.

A 1913 cavalry sword from Springfield Armoury, a World War One British Wilkinson Sword worth £400, and a French cutlass short sword were stolen.

Two infantry parade swords from 1800 were also taken along with six Gurkha kukri blades.

The burglars managed to smash their way in through the cellar of the property before stealing the weapons and a chain saw.

Police say the break in happened between May 18th and 23rd and are now appealing for information in relation to the crime. Anyone with information can contact Burnley Police Station on 01282 425001 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
