A FIRE at a house in Hapton has resulted in the seizure of £30,000 worth of cannabis plants.

The upstairs fire at the terraced house in Wood Street at noon on Friday was put out by firefighters after neighbours raised the alarm.

But when firefighters arrived they discovered a cannabis farm and alerted police.

PC Nigel Keates said: “The house is empty but it is rented out so we are making inquiries to find out further information.

“It is a fairly reasonable size cannabis farm and we are keen to speak to anyone who may have information. The fire could have been a lot worse as there was a lot of electrical equipment about.”

Police removed equipment and 76 plants from the house. Anyone with information can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
