Mohammed Latif (20) had been asked for his details when he left his Vauxhall Astra on the road with its engine still running at 2am.

Burnley magistrates heard Latif was told he was being detained, still refused to comply, started filming the officer and asked for his collar number. He asked for the officer’s name and when told he didn’t need to provide it, Latif replied: “Well, I’m not providing you with my name.”

The defendant had then continued: “You younger officers don’t know what you’re doing. I bet you were bullied at school.” He then claimed the officer was racist and added: “I bet it’s because I’m Pakistani.”

Latif, of Maurice Street, Nelson, admitted obstructing a police officer in Nelson, and failing to surrender. He was given a conditional discharge and told to pay £85 costs, a £15 victim surcharge and a £150 criminal court charge.

Geoff Ireland (defending) said Latif had stopped just to use a cash machine.
