George Johnston Marsden, 76, and Hilda Mary Marsden, 71, were both expected to attend Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court this morning, accused of causing unnecessary suffering to a cross breed collie-type called Rex, who later had to be put down.

The RSPCA and Wigan Council conducted a joint investigation and issued a summons for the owners of Woodshaw Kennels in Aspull to answer court charges.

Back in August, Gary Fish had entrusted Rex into the care of Woodshaw Kennels at Manor House Farm in Aspull for seven days.

But when he came to collect him, he found Rex’s tail was covered in congealed blood.

The Ashton 50-year-old rushed him to the vets, who decided they had no option but to put him down.
