Couple seriously hurt in car smash: police appeal

POLICE are renewing their appeal for witnesses to come forward after a couple suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car that mounted the pavement and collided with them as they walked towards Haslingden.

The incident happened around 5pm on Tuesday, December 10th, when a Ford Focus and Peugeot 307 collided in Grane Road at the junction with Waterside Road.

As a result of the collision, the Peugeot mounted the pavement and collided with a man and a woman walking towards Haslingden.

The 41-year-old woman from Helmshore was taken to Royal Preston Hospital with two broken legs while her 36-year-old husband was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital with a deep cut to his head.

The driver of the Focus was unhurt while the driver of the Peugeot suffered minor injuries.

Sgt Tracey Ward said: “Our investigation into the circumstances surrounding this collision is on-going but we still need anybody that witnessed this incident to come forward and call police on 101.”
