Waste experts are urging everyone to cut the amount we put in our bins and consider giving their garden a head start by composting at home.

County Coun. Janice Hanson, cabinet member for waste, said: “Over 30% of all the waste we throw away could be composted and this figure rises at Christmas.

“As well as composting fruit and veg from the kitchen and green garden waste, please make an effort to recycle any extra packaging or recyclables from celebrations, which as well as being good for the environment, helps us all save money on dealing with the waste.”
