Cables and bearings specialist igus supplied one of its robotic arms for research that involved testing ten biscuits for ‘dunkability’.

The robotic arm Digital scales were used to measure how much liquid each biscuit could absorb after a 15-second dunk, with each test conducted three times,

The result of the study proved that McVitie’s Rich Tea is the ‘most dunkable’ biscuit, with the snack commended for ‘holding its form with ease during the absorption test’.

The research, which was conducted by the Institute of Physics, is featured in the September 2016 issue of Wired, which was published on Thursday, August 4.

Matthew Aldridge, managing director at igus, said: “We were delighted that our robolink D played a pivotal role in such a valuable piece of research.

"Despite the quirky nature of the project, the robotic arm had to meet strict repeatability criteria, ensuring that no external forces could skew the results. It was a pleasure working with the Institute of Physics to establish the humble Rich Tea as ‘best for dunking’.”
