Colne woman who knifed friend jailed for flouting court order

Burnley Crown Court heard how Stacey Rivers had only turned up to the probation service once - and that was for the induction appointment. She had breached all parts of the court order and had not taken it seriously.

Rivers, who is now 14 weeks pregnant, has now got 32 weeks to reflect on her conduct, after a judge locked her up for that long.

The defendant (21), of Harclough Barn, Colne, admitted being in breach of the suspended sentence, imposed in September, after she was convicted of wounding.

Mr Richard Bennett (prosecuting) said, last December, Rivers and the victim had been to a party in Nelson and went back to the defendant’s home in the early hours.

Rivers found some damage at her home, a row followed with her friend and the victim grabbed the defendant by the hair and pulled her to the floor. While on the floor, the defendant picked up a knife, they scuffled and Rivers had lashed out with the knife, causing an injury to the victim’s shoulder.

Mr Daniel Thomas, for Rivers, said she had been in hospital earlier this month. The barrister continued: “She accepts she has not taken the order as seriously as she clearly should have done.”

Sentencing, Judge Beverly Lunt told the defendant the chance she got was the chance she was given a month ago.

She continued: “You failed to comply with the order of the court and it shows you have no intention of doing so.”
