Colne family join 50-strong team in breast cancer charity run

SIX members of a Colne family will join a group of 50 runners to take on a 10km run to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Siblings Damian Heaton and Joanne Lynch decided to take on the challenge after their sister Christina Hurst was diagnosed with breast cancer.

The pair, along with other members of the family and Christina’s friends and work colleagues will run from Warwick to Kenilworth Castle on June 12th.

They hope to reach their target of £3,000 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer, the UK’s leading charity committed to fighting breast cancer through researching, campaigning and education.

Damian of Dean Street, Trawden, said: “We all want to do something to raise money for a charity which supports people going through the same thing as Chris and we want to spur her on while she is receiving treatment.”

Christina, who is formerly of Colne and now lives in Warwick, was diagnosed with breast cancer last December and is receiving chemotherapy to treat the disease.

She said: “The whole thing started when my husband David and my daughter Carrie decided to do the run. Carrie put it on Facebook and before we knew it other members of my family and lots of my friends and work colleagues said they wanted to do it with them. We now have the biggest team in the race which is absolutely fantastic.

“I have been completely bowled over by everyone’s kindness. I am going for my final chemotherapy session of Wednesday and the thought of what they are doing is really keeping me going. I will be at the start of the race cheering them on and watching as they cross the finishing line.”

The team have so far raised more than £2,000 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer but hope to top this and reach their goal of £3,000.

Sponsorship forms are available from the Lunch Box in Skipton Road, Colne Health Centre in Market Street and Colne Carpets in Lowther Lane, Foulridge.

The team also have an online donation page at www.justgiving.com/twocastleschris
