COLNE: Attacker made hoax call to divert police

A LOUT who attacked a man tried to get out of it by making a hoax call to police, Pennine magistrates heard.

William Alderson had burst into a house and set about the victim. The man had gone to the floor and the defendant was then said to have kicked him in the face. He suffered a burst lip. The defendant tried to evade arrest when leaving the house and phoned the police to divert them in another direction.

Officers soon realised the call was fake, although police resources were used.

Alderson (30), of William Street, Colne, admitted assault, wasting police time and failing to surrender to bail.

The jobless defendant, who is on incapacity benefit, was bailed until January 26th for a pre-sentence report. He must live at his home address and not contact witnesses.
