Clitheroe Sainsbury’s worker thwarted Christmas shopping thieves

A STAFF member at a Clitheroe superstore felt intimidated when she was confronted by two men and two women.

Blackburn magistrates heard the member of staff managed to hold on to a shopping trolley containing £228 worth of goods and also managed to get the registration number of the car the people left in.

Bernadette Ratcliffe (40), of Manchester Road, Burnley, pleaded guilty to theft from Sainsbury’s in Clitheroe. She was made subject to a 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. curfew for 10 weeks and ordered to pay £85 in costs.

The court heard the offence was committed just before Christmas and the trolley contained a number of high value items including beef joints and steaks.
