Clean-cut Rob is a man on a TV mission...

College lecturer Rob lives to clean, and is about to share his passion with the nation in the latest “Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners” series on Channel 4.

Burnley-born Rob does not even like people sitting on his sofa. He gets up at 4-30am every day and cleans his immaculate cottage before setting off for work at 6-30am. When he gets back to Fence from his job at Bolton College he starts cleaning all over again. He gets through between 15 and 17 bottles of bleach a week.

Rob grew up in a busy, lived-in home with dogs and pets and decided at a young age that when he had his own home it would be a perfect abode, with nothing out of place. A camera crew from the programme’s production company betty followed his home cleaning regime for a final interview before he was selected to take part in the programme.

“I grew up watching Kim and Aggie’s “How Clean is Your House” and people had told me my cleaning routines were a bit off the wall so I applied to go Obsessive Compulsive on a bit of a whim. I never thought it would go this far.

“The application process was gruelling; seven one-hour phone interviews, and then I had to go to London to be interviewed by a psychologist. I am not OCD, but other people on the show have been diagnosed with the condition. The psychologist makes sure that people are not taken advantage of.

“There is a lot of humour in the show and it is shedding light on OCD, raising awareness that if someone has the condition it’s a compulsion in their life.”

Rob visits charity shop fan Soo and tries to clear her clutter in the first in the series of Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners on Channel 4 at 8pm.
