Thom Rawson, 23, and Jack French, 24, run the Burnley fan Twitter account, London’s Longside (@ldnlongside), and kickstarted the campaign to honour Dyche in a lasting way.

The lifelong Clarets supporters want to rename Mitre Street ‘Sean Dyche Way’ in a reference to a fan chant, which includes the lyrics: “23 undefeated, playing football the Sean Dyche way.”

Thom, who introduced Jack to the Clarets when they were children, said: “Sean Dyche’s reign at the club has been an amazing success, long may it continue. We want to show our gratitude following a season which, for many, sits among the best in memory: 23 undefeated, champions, top goalscorer, player of the season, double over Rovers and an England cap.

“We feel it’s incredibly important to say a permanent thank you to the man that made it all possible.”

The street sits opposite the famous mural of Dyche on Westgate, leading the London’s Longside lads to encourage their fellow supporters to ‘complete the job’ and rename the street after their hero.

Thom, whose Burnley-fan father Dave moved to Basingstoke before Thom was born, said: “We are in the unusual position that a home game for us can mean a 04:30 start!

“Jack and I grew up together, through school and football. Jack lives near Millwall so gets some strange looks when in claret and blue!

The area in question is earmarked for potential redevelopment, leading Thom to urge the council to strongly consider the gesture, insisting: “This would complete the tribute in a permanent way.”

With 1,000 signatures required, the online petition can be found at http://www.petitionbuzz.com/petitions/seandycheway.
