Police are calling on revellers to plan how they are getting home on nights out in town centres like Burnley, Colne, Nelson and Clitheroe over Christmas.

Officials advise people to prearrange a lift home with friends or relatives or pre-book a taxi which will save queuing at the end of the night.

Use clearly marked and licenced taxis, ask for the driver’s name and travel with friends where possible.

Officers are also calling for people to enjoy alcohol sensibly and say drinking excessively can leave people more vulnerable.

DCI Sion Hall, from Burnley CID, said: “As Christmas is almost upon us, it’s a good opportunity to remind people who are going out and having a drink that they should be thinking and planning how they are getting home at the end of the night.

“We want everyone to enjoy Christmas which for a lot of people, is likely to involve drinking alcohol. What I would say is use your common sense, drink to the point where you still feel capable of looking after yourself and can arrange to get yourself home safely.

“Lastly I would like to wish the public of Burnley and Pendle a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.”
