This will be sung on Monday, March 21, at 7.30pm.

This popular choral work is a meditation on the Easter story - Christ’s suffering, death and resurrection and the work includes five hymns for the audience to sing.

Stonyhurst’s Schola Cantorum will be accompanied by Samuel Hudson, the Cathedral’s Director of Music, and directed by Dr Kevin Morgan. The concert is part of a series of services and events for Holy Week being held at Blackburn Cathedral.

The text was written by W J Sparrow Simpson, the librettist of Stainer’s earlier cantata, Mary Magdalene. The work is dedicated “to my pupil and friend W Hodge and the choir of Marylebone Church,” who first performed it on February 24, 1887, the day after Ash Wednesday.

Admission is free and all are welcome.
