Clare Wilson is celebrating her first half-marathon – and raising almost £500 for charity.

Clare (35), a counsellor at Blessed Trinity Roman Catholic College, only took up running a year ago.

The mother-of-two was nervous before Sunday’s 13.1-mile race in Lancaster and was aiming for around the two-hour mark – but dipped just under on 1hr 58min.

Clare, pictured with Steph Hawke (37), who works for Curious Minds as their partnership and development co-ordinator, both raised money for cancer charities – Cancer Research and Macmillian – as both are close to their hearts with the disease affecting close friends and family recently.

They were helped along the way by Blessed Trinity teacher Lindsay Bleazard, a runner and swimmer, who paced their run to make sure they did not set off too fast.

“It’s a great achievement,” said Clare. “I wasn’t sure if I could do it but thankfully Steph and Lindsay kept me going. We are also grateful to all who sponsored us.”
