A celebration of life in Brierfield

Families in Brierfield have flocked to Tunstill Square’s Family Tree Centre to celebrate life in the town.

The event, hosted by NHS East Lancashire Community Health Services and entitled a “Celebration of Brierfield,” proved a hit with residents attracting people of all ages and backgrounds.

Activities were held all day, such as the creation of a large “Welcome” mosaic to display outside the centre, making Christmas tree decorations and Henna painting. A selection of Asian and English foods were available to make sure nobody went hungry too.

Victoria McFadyen, Senior Worker at the Family Tree Centre, said: “The event was for the whole community and we were thrilled to see so many people attend, including people who don’t normally visit the centre.

“Part of the day was also about seeking people’s views of Brierfield to see what people are happy with already and where we can help make improvements.”

Sara Mumby, Pendle Council’s Brierfield Neighbourhood Manager, said: “This event was perfect for what we are currently trying to achieve in Brierfield and Reedley.

“This includes addressing some of the root causes to the problems we have, such as people from different backgrounds not getting on as well together, compared to other areas in Pendle.”

Pendle Council Leader, Coun. Mike Blomeley, added: “Anything which brings the whole community together is something to be celebrated. There are challenges to be faced in Brierfield, but there are also lots to be proud of.”
