A Burnley care home has thrown its support behind a national campaign to get more elderly people out and about to combat the impact of isolation.

Dove Court Bupa Care Home on Shuttleworth Street in Burnley is supporting this year’s Silver Sunday - a national day of free fun and activities for older people across the UK - by holding a free tea dance for older members of the local community, along with their family and friends.

Silver Sunday aims to tackle the loneliness and isolation felt by many older people by providing social activities to encourage them to get out, try new things and meet new people. It also celebrates the value and knowledge that they bring to our communities.

“We know loneliness is a growing issue for older people," said Marie Harris, home manager at Dove Court. "It’s great that we are in a position to support Silver Sunday by holding events at our care homes across the country, to offer older members of our community somewhere they can enjoy a fun activity in the company of others.

"I know our residents are looking forward to welcoming some new faces on the day,” she added.

The event will take place on Sunday 1 October from 2pm and will include a ballroom and Latin tea dance with performances from Sandersons Dance Studio and traditional afternoon tea. For further information or to book your place, call 0808 231 8248.
