A cannabis addict who had spent up to £500 a week on the drug has given up after being caught by the police.
Shabir Akbar (28), was found with a small snap bag of cannabis in his pocket when police searched him on February 17th. He was given eight months in custody, suspended for a year, five days later for a separate offence of possessing drugs with intent to supply.
He told officers he normally spent between £300 and £500 a week on the drug, dependent on work.
Akbar, of Halifax Road, Brierfield, admitted possessing cannabis. He was fined £80, with a £20 victim surcharge and £85 costs. He had 19 offences on his record. John Rusius (defending) said: “He tells me he has changed his ways. He doesn’t use the drug. He doesn’t even smoke cigarettes.”
