Cancer death of mental health nurse (33)

Mental health nurse Emma Green died at home in Glen View Road aged just 33 after a brave battle against cancer of the oesophagus.

Her devastated parents Geof and Donna said they were proud to have had such a lovely daughter.

Donna said: “Emma was a wonderful person. We have an amazing sense of pride that she was our daughter. Geof and I can’t believe we created such an amazing human being.

“Emma was such a warm and popular girl who achieved a lot in her short life. She loved her job and loved her family, particularly her niece Alanah and nephew Marley, and brother Adam.

“Emma was generous and kind, she would always put other people first.”

Emma was first diagnosed with cancer in July last year and underwent successful chemotherapy. Sadly she became ill in August and was told the cancer had spread.

Around 500 mourners packed inside and outside Burnley Crematorium for Emma’s funeral, which had a purple theme to represent her favourite colour.

Emma, who attended Rosehill School and Ivy Bank High School, worked as a mental health nurse at Arbury Court in Warrington, a job which her parents said she was dedicated to.

Such was her popularity that colleagues have planted flowers in her memory at the centre and are also planning a more lasting memorial.

Emma’s best friend Lee Farrar was at her bedside with her family when she died.

Lee said: “Emma and I just clicked straight away. She was my soulmate and was even the best man at my wedding.

“Everyone should have someone like Emma in their life. She was a brilliant person.”

Emma’s parents said she loved holidays, particularly to America. She had recently visited New York, Florida, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. She also enjoyed musicals and shows.
