The charity, which cares for rescue dogs in the Burnley and Pendle area, are asking people to fill a shoebox of dog presents.

“This can be treats, collars, blankets, coats, food – anything you think a dog would love,” said Paula Knowles, who set up Pendle Dogs in Need in 2013.

“The last time we ran this appeal we got so many boxes donated, we were able to help other rescue centres as well.

“This year we will be passing any extra boxes over to Sleeping Ruff so the dogs that sleep on the streets with their owners can also have a treat for Christmas.”

Shoeboxes can be dropped off at the Pendle Dogs in Need hub on Burnley Road in Colne, at Barrowford Pet Store or at Raw Feeding on Hallam Road in Nelson.

“These dogs will not be tucked up in warm homes this Christmas so we want to give them a little something to let them know we do care,” added Paula.

The charity is also appealing for foster homes as their kennels are now full.

“We urgently need foster homes for the dogs as it has got busier in the run-up to Christmas with pets being abandoned.

People seem to have a clear out and include their pets in this.”
