The Swan and Railway, on Wallgate, posted pictures of the suspected offender on its Facebook page after the collection tin for a children’s cancer charity went missing from its bar at around 2.30pm yesterday.

The theft has been reported to the police but the pub posted the pictures in a bid to trace the woman they believe is the offender themselves.

Landlord Carl Jones said: “I wasn’t in at the time it happened but my wife was working.

“She didn’t realise what had happened straight away but when she noticed it was gone someone pointed out this woman and said she had been hanging around it.

“I don’t know exactly how much was in the charity box but it was full and waiting to be collected. It had been on the bar for around 12 months.

The woman is described as white, with blond hair, aged between 40 and 50, about 5ft 5in tall of medium build. She was wearing a sleeveless black top, a black coat and she was carrying two Asda bags.
