The Burnley Express can reveal that the ice rink will be created in St James’s Street on the site of the former bandstand.

As part of the re-development, private company Bluegill believe Burnley’s all year round cool climate is perfect for the ice rink.

It is hoped the site will rival Manchester’s Chillfactore and in years to come could produce Burnley’s first Olympic ice-skater.

Bluegill chief executive Mr Paul Loof said: “If the ice rink takes off we are thinking of creating a zip-slide from the top of the Keirby Hotel.”
