Thirty-two workers at Burnley Town Hall could lose their jobs as the council tries to save more than £5m. over the next two years.

Council bosses have notified all affected staff and an eight-to 12-week consultation period has begun looking at the future of 32 posts. The cuts will result in a minimum of 15 people being made redundant.

Council leader Coun. Julie Cooper said the decision, which will affect a mixture of frontline and managerial staff across a range of departments, had been made with a heavy heart.

“These are tough days. We have made this decision with huge regret. All the staff at the council are committed but central government have cut funding to the council.”

But she insisted frontline services would be protected. “We are already a very lean organisation but we will do our utmost for the people of Burnley.”
