Burnley Wood Mayor's service at St Stephen's

Parishioners at a Burnley Wood church celebrated the Queen's birthday and the appointment of a local man as Mayor of the borough.

St Stephen’s CE Church in Oxford Road, Burnley Wood, marked the occasion with vintage crockery and delicious cakes and sandwiches.

The afternoon was filled with of host of entertainment representing music, drama and literature over nine decades.

Parishioner Vanessa Norwood said: “Much fun was had by all, including the Mayor Coun. Jeff Sumner, as Queen Elizabeth’s birthday was celebrated with style.”

Church-goers also held a Civic Service to celebrate Burnley Wood boy Jeff’s appointment as Mayor.

Rev. Patrick Senior, the Mayor’s Chaplain, presided at the service held at St Stephen’s, which the Mayoress, local dignitaries, friends and family attended.

The theme for the service was the Good Samaritan to which the Mayor read the lesson. Afterwards there was an informal reception provided by Burnley Borough Council.
