Burnley woman’s 13,000ft parachute jump in memory of gran

Ashleigh Bayliff (25), who lives in Queensgate, is preparing to do a parachute jump from a plane almost 2.5 miles above the earth in Lancashire.

The teaching assistant, who works at Hendon Brook School, is doing the daredevil stunt to honour her gran Angela Wilson, who lost her battle with oesophageal cancer.

All the money raised by Ashleigh will be donated to Pendleside Hospice, which supported Mrs Wilson and the family.

Ashleigh said: “I am doing it in memory of my grandma who died of cancer, as we were really close.

“ I told her that I was going to do it, and I was hoping she would be alive to see me do the sky dive.

“Sadly she died on March 26th.

“But the carers at Pendleside Hospice were great with us, so I just wanted to do something for the hospice.”

The jump will take place above Grange-over-Sands, near Morecambe, on July 21st, which she will do tandem with an instructor.

Ashleigh said: “I am nervous about it.

“You’re strapped to the front of the instructor, then you sit on the edge of the plane and just jump out.

“My friends and family are proud of me, although my gran would probably think I was nuts.”

Ashleigh has raised more than £1,000, including £250 from Altham Travel, which has funded the jump.

But she is hoping to raise even more.
